**Final Thoughts:
After careful consideration, I have to leave Alex and her ‘veteran’ stylist, a negative review. I don’t know what will make me want to visit Salon Cosabella again. I probably won’t go there again even though I shouldn’t judge the whole salon based off few employees.
I just want Alex to spend more time practicing cutting bangs (not on people). If you come across this message, Alex, you’re a great stylist, you can always get better.
And to the veteran stylist:
When you have other stylists asking for help, slow down and analyze the situation. This scenario, you should have just finished fixing what was done. Let Alex have an embarrassing learning moment. And ONLY AFTER I have left, would have been the most proper time for debriefs, lectures, comfort, and assurance. This is all teamwork. At the end of the day, Ratings are toward the whole shop, not each individual.**
My experience
As a new customer, I went in to get my roots done and hair trimmed.
I was outdated on roots and as owner of Asian black hair, I understand how difficult getting the color out may be. Alex did her best and provided alternative options for next time to fix the unevenness. I’m not picky, hair color is decent enough.
However, getting my bangs done was the WORST decision I could have made here.
I asked for Curtain Style bangs (black hair image); and as for length, for it to be between my eye and eyebrow. *Because when I roll it (put volume in it), it will be the perfect length just around my eyebrows.*
After cutting my bangs too short, Alex admitted that, “bangs were difficult,” for her. She attempted to blow out my bangs but it ended up extending outward as if I was wearing a baseball cap.
Even after I explained that I need to have some length for me to build volume into, she continued to attempt cutting it shorter and I had to explain this ‘hair knowledge’ to her and stop her twice. Honestly at this point I lost hope and let her have a go at it. She even offered me the brush at one point as if I had to salvage my own hair at a salon..
After struggling for a while, she asked if I was okay to get a second opinion/help from a veteran stylist.
The veteran stylist definitely seemed more knowledgeable on handling bangs, but it was too late due to the lost length.
What made me uncomfortable here was, she was training Alex as she was fixing my hair. And would constantly make comments like, “it will grow in a week,” “Alex can take it from here.”
What this felt like to me, was as if I volunteered to let them PRACTICE on my hair. As if I was a mannequin.
I understand the veteran stylist probably did not want Alex to lose confidence.
But this was not the right time for lectures or debriefing. Alex already lost confidence when she went and asked for help. She was concerned she will mess up the whole time.
After the veteran stylist left, I explained to Alex I need the layers under my chin as shown in the reference picture. She again reached for my bags with the blade and I stopped her and recommended a different method. She did not understand. And from this point on, she was cutting strands by strands. I knew this was going no where because she was terrified to mess up.
I don’t know what will make me want to visit Salon Cosabella again. I probably won’t go there again even though I shouldn’t judge the whole salon based of few employees.

Thanks for listening to my rant!
